EIJC & Dataharvest is an annual, four-day conference, organised by Journalismfund.eu, which brings together journalism heavyweights, data specialists and coding whiz-kids to exchange skills and story ideas. How much tech is too much tech? When we dig into data-driven investigations we must choose the right approach: should we scrape a whole web site? Build a database? Or just spend the afternoon in Excel to find some insight? In this session Helena (the pragmatist) and Friedrich (the techmatist) will go through some cases they’ve worked on and show different approaches - some more technical, some more journalistic. Traditionally, they will end up shouting at each other in disagreement on how to do things.
