Digital security III: Threat Assessment
Digital Security: How to Stop Worrying and Love the Internet Again. Learning how to asses your adversaries, assets and threat situation is essential in order to pick the right security tools. In this workshop, Henrik Chulu will go through the mental models and digital literacy requirement needed for making the digital security decisions that allow journalists to achieve their goals. Digital security IV: Get your PGP right - send your mails with encryption
Digital Security: Much maligned for its complicated setup and use, PGP encryption nonetheless continues to be the best way to send confidential information by email. In this session we will get set up with PGP encryption and start to exchange encrypted email. We will discuss the basics of public key cryptography, key management, and look at some of the recent advances in usability that will hopefully lead to more widespread adoption of email encryption.. Attendants MUST bring their computers to get in: This is a hands-on workshop.

Implementing security in the newsroom: the approach at Le Soir
After starting the whistleblowing platform Source sûre with seven other French speaking medias in Belgium, France and Switzerland, Le Soir realized that they had to rethink their security practices from the ground to preserve the chain of trust initiated on the platform. In this session, Alain Jennotte explains the incremental approach of this relation between security and a newsroom. From basic daily practices like dealing with passwords or networked printers to PGP trainings and metadata awareness, it's a work in progress, trying hard to overcome technical hurdles and to be convincing that this cultural change is imperative.

What makes a whistleblower platform tick?
Digital Security: Whistleblower platforms come in many shapes and sizes. Some aim to provide information and support for whistleblowers, while others provide digital channels to connect prospective whistleblowers to investigative journalists. Examples of the first are Public Concern at Work in the United Kingdom and House for Whistleblowers in the Netherlands, examples of the second Filtrala in Spain and Publeaks in the Netherlands. What makes these platforms successful, and which consideration should go into developing whistleblower platforms?
